LONDONHOUSE CHICAGO
CASE STUDY
OPPORTUNITY
The historic London Guarantee & Accident Building is a national landmark, built on the site of Fort Dearborn in 1923 and once home to renowned jazz and supper club, London House. The building underwent comprehensive preservation, restoration and redevelopment process to upgrade the iconic property into a high-end Modernist lifestyle hotel with upscale retail space.
CHALLENGE
Our goal as both developers and hoteliers is to distill the alchemy of the building’s unique history, prominent location, distinctive architecture and interior design, and its host of desirable amenities into what matters the most in any hotel—creating a warm, inviting, and special environment for guests. Ultimately, it’s about giving the hotel a true soul that makes it feel like a home away from home.
SOLUTION
The new LondonHouse holds true to its historic roots while also displaying a sophisticated modern chic design with the addition of a new 22-story Modernist glass tower by Chicago’s Goettsch Partners. At the top of the hotel, the refurbished historic cupola and roof-top dining and outdoor event spaces offer Chicago’s only tri-level hotel rooftop with dramatic panoramic views of the city.
RESULT
The London Guarantee and Accident building is one of Chicago’s and the nation’s most visible and prominent pieces of real estate located at the corner of North Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive. The transformation of this architecturally stunning property created a 452 room high-design, luxury lifestyle hotel called LondonHouse. LondonHouse Chicago synchronizes the classical architecture of 360 North Michigan Avenue with a modernist 22 story all glass tower addition forming a one-of-a-kind destination in Chicago.
